Recreation is important in promoting inclusion and quality of life. Studies have shown that it increases self-esteem and confidence, leads to improved communication, social interaction, and friendship skills.
The San Diego Regional Center supports clients having time to recreate and believes it is essential to a healthy and well-balanced life. Below are links to some popular recreation activities in the San Diego and Imperial Counties. However, SDRC does not endorse, nor provide funding for any recreation activity. SDRC is not liable for anything occurring while participating in any of the recreational activities.

|Jesse Billauer was a one of the top 100 surfers in the world. On March 25, 1996, Jesse was in a surfing accident, broke his sixth vertebrae, and instantly became a quadriplegic. The good news is that Jesse’s story didn’t end there. He founded Life Rolls On, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to improving the quality of life for young people affected by spinal cord injuries. The organization provides adaptive surfing and skating experiences that inspire infinite possibilities beyond paralysis. Alan Wubenhorst (pictured above), a client of the San Diego Regional Center was so inspired by Jesse, he participates in many “They Will Surf Again” events throughout the year.|
