Self-Determination Project Update:  December 22, 2020

The San Diego Regional Center continues to move forward with preparations for the full rollout of the Self-Determination Program in the summer of 2021! Currently, there are approximately 40 people fully enrolled in the program. This means they are actively purchasing services through the Self-Determination Program. Many others are working their way towards full enrollment by completing person-centered plans, developing individual budgets, finding service providers, and creating spending plans. The 2,500 initial participants for the Self-Determination Program were selected by DDS in two lottery selections. The San Diego Regional Center is allotted 207 of these slots. DDS has not yet announced whether or not they will be holding a third lottery selection prior to full rollout.

To be included in the lottery, attendance at an informational session is required and registration information can be found below. If you attended an informational session, you can check your status on the DDS website by entering your UCI (Unique Client Identifier) number at SDP Verification. If you were selected, you will need to attend a required orientation before moving forward. See the section below titled ‘Orientation Registration Information’ for more information on upcoming dates. If you were not selected in either lottery, your name is still on the list for possible selection in future lottery selections that will be conducted to fill any spots left by people who choose not to enroll in Self-Determination, move out of state, or are otherwise unable to pursue the program.

If you have questions about the Self Determination Program please email SDRC at or contact DDS at
